Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand and French Minister Delegate for European Affairs Benjamin Haddad will meet in Helsinki on Friday 1 August. Their meeting will focus on a variety of topical EU issues.

“Finland and France have excellent relations. Both of our countries are especially focused on strengthening Europe’s competitiveness and security, and it is important that we deepen cooperation in these areas,” Minister Strand said.

The ministers’ discussions will address a number of topical EU security issues, such as the Union’s ongoing strong support for Ukraine, strengthening European defence and countering to hybrid threats, as well as border security and the weaponisation of migration. The ministers will also discuss the proposal for the next multiannual financial framework put forth by the European Commission in July.
