Finland holds lead role in UN’s Generation Equality campaign – We welcome you to join discussion on technology and innovations to support equality
On 24 November 2020, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs will organise a public webinar on equality, technology and innovation. The themes will be promoted under Finnish leadership in the global Generation Equality campaign.
How should technology and innovations be used to promote gender equality? How to ensure equal opportunities for everyone to participate in future information societies, and what challenges are expected? Why should we work for equal opportunities in technology and innovations – and how will our businesses and societies benefit from an equal technology sector?
Answers to these and other questions concerning equality, technology and innovation will be sought on Tuesday 24 November at 14.00–16.00 in a public webinar, which will launch discussion on Finland’s contribution to the promotion of the Generation Equality campaign.
The major campaign coordinated by UN Women brings together states, companies, UN organisations, civil society, foundations and youth representatives. One of the main aims is to boost those gender equality objectives that have in recent decades suffered from slow global development. Six Action Coalitions focusing on different themes have been set up in connection with the campaign. Finland has been selected to be a member of the Action Coalition that is responsible Technology, Innovation and Gender Equality.
At first, Minister for Development and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will address the event in a video message. The keynote speaker, Product Marketing Manager at Google Yacine Samb, will focus on gender equality in the technology sector. In the panel discussion, Eva Biaudet, MP and Chair of the Federation of Women's Organisations, Jyri Engeström, founding member of the venture capital company YES VC, Yuri Birjulin, UN Youth Delegate, and Priyanka Banerjee, CEO of the development company BusinessWiz, will discuss the importance of technology and innovations in the development of equal societies.
The discussion will be moderated by Katja Toropainen, founder of Inklusiiv, a non-profit community that promotes diversity in working life, and one of the most influential technology leaders in the Nordic countries.
Sustainable change is effected together — you are warmly welcome to join the webinar.
