The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) serves as the primary multi-stakeholder forum for international digital policy and internet governance. Finland, alongside the Netherlands and Germany, has reaffirmed its commitment to the IGF with a combined contribution of approximately 550,000 Euros in 2024.

Building on the foundation laid by the World Summit on the Information Society, the Global Digital Compact has underscored the central role of the IGF as the primary multi-stakeholder forum for shaping international digital policy and internet governance.

The Governments of Finland, the Netherlands, and Germany have reiterated their commitment to the IGF. In 2024, the three nations will collectively contribute around 550,000 Euros to the IGF Main Trust Fund, supporting the IGF in its functions. The three governments also urge other stakeholders to step-up their efforts and support to the multi-stakeholder model on internet governance.

The IGF is a United Nations multi-stakeholder platform open to all interested parties, addressing current legal, political, social, and technical issues related to the internet. The forum is convened annually by the UN Secretary-General and hosted by a different country each year.

The upcoming 2024 IGF will take place in Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from 15 to 19 December 2024. As the IGF is not funded through the regular UN budget, they rely on voluntary contributions.
