Finnish and Moldovan European affairs ministers to meet in Helsinki

Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand and Moldovan Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov will meet in Helsinki on Friday 1 August. The main topic on the agenda will be Moldova’s EU accession process.

“Moldova has made significant progress in the accession talks. I encourage Moldova to continue on this path. Finland strongly supports Moldova on its journey towards EU membership,” Minister Strand said.

Moldova applied for membership in the European Union in 2022. The formal accession negotiations began in June 2024. 

In addition to the EU accession talks, the ministers will discuss Finland’s support for developing governance in Moldova and for Moldova’s efforts to prevent hybrid influence activities perpetrated by Russia.
