In 2027, Finland will have been independent for 110 years. On 5 March, the Government appointed a committee to organise the festivities for the 110th anniversary.

It has become customary to celebrate major anniversaries of Finland’s independence with greater ceremony than usual. Special committees are set up to plan the anniversary festivities.

In addition to commemorating Finland’s independence, the anniversary celebrations offer an opportunity to update our understanding of Finland and Finnish identity.

Finland’s 110th anniversary committee

The 110th anniversary committee appointed by the Government will oversee the planning and execution of the anniversary celebrations. The committee will ensure that the celebrations are implemented in broad-based cooperation a variety of actors and stakeholders. Risto Artjoki, State Secretary to the Prime Minister, will serve as the committee’s chair.

The Prime Minister’s Office will appoint a secretary general to serve as the secretary of the anniversary committee at a later date. A working committee will also be appointed to support the planning and implementation of the anniversary year.

The committee has been appointed for a fixed term ending on 29 February 2028.
