Juho Romakkaniemi to be Jyrki Katainen
Vice-President of the European Commission Jyrki Katainen has invited Juho Romakkaniemi, Special Adviser (Secretary to Ministers) to Prime Minister Alexander Stubb, to be his Head of Cabinet when the new Commission starts its work at the beginning of November. Romakkaniemi has previously served as Finance Minister Katainen’s Special Adviser responsible for, among other things, EU Affairs, Prime Minister Katainen’s Special Adviser for EU Affairs, a member of the cabinet of Vice-President of the European Commission Olli Rehn, and Prime Minister Alexander Stubb’s Special Adviser (Secretary to Ministers).
Special Adviser (Economic Affairs) Joonas Turunen will replace Romakkaniemi as Prime Minister Stubb’s Special Adviser (Secretary to Ministers). During the previous parliamentary term, Turunen worked in the service of the parliamentary group of the National Coalition Party (Kokoomus). During the current parliamentary term, Turunen has worked as the Prime Minister’s Special Adviser (Parliamentary Affairs) and as Special Adviser (Economic Affairs) to Katainen and Stubb.
Taneli Lahti, who served as Katainen’s Head of Cabinet during the present Commission, has been invited to be Head of Cabinet of Commission Vice-President for the Euro and Social Dialogue Valdis Dombrovski. Lahti will also start his work when the new Commission begins. This will be the first time that a Finn has served as Head of Cabinet of a Commissioner who is not a Finn.
