The Government decided on 18 June to nominate Jyrki Katainen as Finland's candidate for the period of 1 July–31 October 2014 in the European Commission. On hearing the European Parliament and in agreement with the President of the Commission, the Council will appoint a Finnish member to the Commission for the remaining term of office, until 31 October 2014. When the current member of the Commission Olli Rehn starts as the member of the European Parliament Finland's position in the Commission will become vacant as of 1 July.
