Licence of Basso Media will not be revoked by Government
On 2 April 2020, the Government made a decision that the programme licences of Oy Basso Media Ltd for semi-national and local radio broadcasting will not be revoked despite a change in the effective control of the company.
Basso Media Ltd has signed a letter of intent, which would transfer its effective control to Bauer Media Holding Oy. Bauer Media Holding Oy is the parent company of the Finnish companies under the German-owned Bauer Media Group.
Currently, Basso Media provides radio broadcasting in terrestrial analogue radio network in three frequency bands. These are the frequency band 10 (Helsinki, Jyväskylä, Oulu, Tampere, Turku), frequency band 22 (Helsinki, Kotka, Lappeenranta, Porvoo, Turku) and Helsinki 4. The programme licences are valid until 31 December 2019.
The government decision applies to programme licences issued under the Act on Electronic Communication Services. The change will not result in centralisation of the radio market that could be considered to harm the versatility of the programme supply, the freedom of expression or the securing of the needs of special groups.
