Minister for European Affairs Joakim Strand and Croatian State Secretary for Europe Andreja Metelko-Zgombić to meet in Helsinki

Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand and Croatian State Secretary for Europe Andreja Metelko-Zgombić will meet in Helsinki on Wednesday 26 March. The meeting will focus on a variety of topical issues on the EU agenda and on bilateral relations between Croatia and Finland.
Topics of discussion will include the development of EU defence and the security situation, EU enlargement, the next EU multiannual financial framework (2028–), measures to improve the EU’s competitiveness and support for Ukraine on its path towards a just and lasting peace.
“In the difficult geopolitical situation we face today, the EU must work decisively together and find ways to guarantee both competitiveness and security. An important component of this work is the Preparedness Union Strategy, which the Commission will publish this week. I am very pleased that my Croatian colleague and I have the opportunity to pave the way for a stronger Europe,” Minister Strand said.
Minister Strand and State Secretary Metelko-Zgombić are colleagues on the EU General Affairs Council, which is responsible for a number of cross-cutting policy areas including negotiations on the EU’s multiannual financial framework, EU enlargement and issues related to the rule of law.
