Minister Pär Stenbäck elected to the Standing Commission of the Red Cross

The International Conference of the International Red Cross and the Red Crescent Movement ended in Geneva on 1 December. The conference, held every four years, is exceptionally significant and broad-based forum of humanitarian affairs. In the conference, deliberative power is exercised by the State parties to the Geneva Conventions on the rules of war and the various components of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

In the conference, Minister Pär Stenbäck was elected member of the Standing Commission of the International Red Cross. The Commission exercises deliberative power in the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement between the International Conferences, held every four years, and, for instance, makes arrangements for the meetings of the International Conference. Stenbäck was the Nordic candidate appointed by the Finnish Red Cross.

Other members elected to the Standing Commission in addition to Minister Stenbäck were Dr Massimo Barra from Italy, Juris Doctor Steve Carr from the United States, Senior Lawyer Greg Vickery from Australia and PhD Mohammed Al-Hadid from Jordan.
