Finnish Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend a high-level forum in Oslo on 24–25 March. The forum is organised by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). The event will discuss accelerating financing to reduce disaster risks and to improve global preparedness for risks.

Finland actively participates in UN cooperation and can offer solutions for reducing disaster risks. Minister Tavio will represent Finland at the forum and highlight Finnish expertise in risk prevention.

“Finland has world-class know-how in meteorology and early-warning systems for natural disasters. Involving the private sector in development cooperation in areas such as these is also of paramount importance in times of diminishing resources,” Minister Tavio says.

At the forum, Minister Tavio will participate, among other events, in a panel discussion focusing on the current state of disaster risk reduction (DRR) financing and the development of innovative financing solutions.

In Oslo, Minister Tavio will also meet Norway’s Minister of International Development Åsmund Aukrust, Director General of the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad) Bard Vegar Solhell and Seychelles’ Minister of Internal Affairs Charles E. Fonseka, among others.
