Minister Tuomioja to Meeting of the Nordic-Baltic Eight and the Visegrád Group
Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will participate in the joint Foreign Ministers Meeting of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8), and Visegrád Group (V4) being held in Narva, Estonia on 6–7 March 2014.
The NB8 countries are Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Iceland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania and the Visegrád Group, in turn, is made up of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. The meeting is convened by Estonia, the coordinator of NB8 cooperation in 2013, and Hungary, the chair of the V4 countries.
The main topic of discussion at the meeting will be the situation in Ukraine, Russia and the Eastern Partnership. The intention is for the Foreign Ministers to issue a joint Declaration. Other issues on the agenda are security and defence policy, energy and transport cooperation.
NB8 cooperation began in 1991. V4 cooperation was also launched in the same year. The first NB8-V4 Foreign Ministers Meeting took place in Gdansk, Poland in 2013.
