New Ambassadors

At the presidential session on Friday 15 March, the President of the Republic decided to appoint the following new Ambassadors.

Counsellor Marianne Nissilä was appointed to serve as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, from 1 June 2019. Nissilä will transfer to Abu Dhabi from the post of Ambassador for Education Export. In the Diplomatic Service, she has previously worked at Finland's Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels and at Finland's missions in The Hague and Paris. She joined the Foreign Ministry in 1996.

Counsellor Marjut Akola was appointed to serve as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Bucharest, Romania, from 17 June 2019. Akola is currently Director of the Market Access Unit. In the Diplomatic Service, she has previously worked in Geneva, Brussels and Riga. She joined the Ministry in 1998.

Counsellor Riitta Swan was appointed to serve as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Dar es Salaam, Democratic Republic of the Congo, from 1 June 2019. Swan will transfer to the post from Abu Dhabi, where she has served as Finland's Ambassador since 2015. In the Diplomatic Service, she has previously worked in Budapest and Stockholm. She joined the Ministry in 1987.

Counsellor Päivi Pohjanheimo was appointed to serve as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Mexico City, Mexico, from 17 June 2019. Pohjanheimo will transfer to the post from Bucharest, where he has served as Finland's Ambassador since 2015. In the Diplomatic Service, she has previously worked in London and Tunis. She joined the Ministry in 2002.

Counsellor Roy Eriksson was appointed to serve as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Ottawa, Canada, from 17 June 2019. Eriksson will transfer to the post from Mexico City, where he has worked as Finland's Ambassador since 2015. In the Diplomatic Service, he has previously worked in Brussels, Berlin, Ottawa and Ankara. He joined the Ministry in 1990.

Counsellor Antti Vänskä was appointed to serve as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Singapore, Singapore, from 1 June 2019. Vänskä will transfer to Singapore from Washington DC, where he has served as Deputy Head of Mission since 2015. In the Diplomatic Service, he has previously worked in Berlin and St Petersburg. He joined the Ministry in 1996.

Counsellor Pekka Hukka was appointed to serve as Head of the Embassy of Finland in Tunis, Tunisia, from 1 June 2019. Hukka will transfer to the post from Dar es Salaam where he has served as Finland's Ambassador since 2015. In the Diplomatic Service, he has previously worked in the Permanent Delegation of Finland to the OECD in Paris. He joined the Ministry in 1985.
