New ambassadors to Oslo, Paris and Prague and non-resident ambassador to Papua New Guinea

At the presidential session on Friday 25 February, the President of the Republic appointed three new ambassadors and a non-resident ambassador.

Teemu Tanner. 

The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Teemu Tanner to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Oslo from 1 September 2022.

Tanner will transfer to Oslo from the Finnish Embassy in Paris, where he is currently Head of Mission. He has previously worked as Director General at Foreign Ministry’s Political Department and at the Department for Africa and the Middle East. Tanner’s career in the Diplomatic Service includes posts in Seoul, Washington DC and the Permanent Representation of Finland to the European Union in Brussels. He was Secretary General at the Office of the President of the Republic of Finland from 2012 to 2017.

Tanner joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1985. He holds the degree of Master of Social Sciences.

The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Matti Anttonen to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Paris, starting on 1 September 2022. Anttonen will transfer to Paris from the post of State Secretary at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Anttonen served as Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in Moscow in 2008–2012 and at the Embassy in Stockholm in 2017–2018. In 2013–2016, he served as Under-Secretary of State responsible for external economic relations. In 2012–2013, Anttonen worked as Director General of the Department for External Economic Relations and International Trade.

Anttonen joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1986. He holds two university degrees: Master of Social Sciences and Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration.

The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Pasi Tuominen to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Prague, starting on 1 June 2022.

Tuominen will transfer to Prague from the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, where he is currently Director General of Consular Services. In 2006–2007, he worked as Crisis and Assistance Team Leader and in 2007–2012 as Director of Unit in the Consular Services of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. In 2012–2017, he served as Head of Mission at the Finnish Embassy in Budapest.

Tuominen joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1997. He holds two university degrees: Master of Laws and Master of Science in Economics and Business Administration.

In addition, the President of the Republic authorised Ambassador Satu Mattila-Budich to represent Finland in Papua New Guinea.
