New Deputy Director General and Inspector-General

On 15 October, the Government decided on two new appointments in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

Titta Maja

The Government promoted Counsellor Titta Maja to the public office of Counsellor for Foreign Affairs starting on 1 November 2020 and appointed her to the post of Deputy Director General of the Department for Development Policy for a fixed term from 1 November 2020 to 31 August 2024.

Maja will transfer to the post from the Unit for South Asia, where he has served as Director of Unit since 2018. Before that, she worked in the Department for Communications, where she was Editor-in-Chief of Kauppapolittiikka magazine in 2017–2018. At the Permanent Mission of Finland in Geneva in 2014–2017, Maja was responsible for disarmament, arms control and human rights questions. Her experience of work in the Diplomatic Service includes also posts in Santiago de Chile and Tallinn. She has also served in the Delegation of the European Union to Brazil. In the Ministry, Maja has held several positions linked to development cooperation, including in the Department for Africa and the Middle East and the Department for the Americas and Asia. Maja joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2002. She has also worked in the service of UNDP, UNICEF and UNIFEM. She holds a Master's degree in Social Sciences.
 

Ari Rouhe

The Government appointed Legal Counsellor Ari Rouhe to the post of Inspector-General for the Foreign Service for a fixed term from 19 October 2020 to 31 August 2024. The Inspector-General for the Foreign Service heads the Unit for Internal Audit, whose main responsibilities include audit of Finland's missions abroad and the units in the Ministry. From 2009 until 2020, Rouhe has served as Director General for Administrative Services. In 2004–2007, he worked in the Diplomatic Service in Brussels where he held the post of Head of Administration at the Permanent Representation of Finland to the EU. Rouhe joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1995.
