In a joint statement delivered on Thursday, the Nordic and Baltic countries and Poland pledged to strengthen their support for Ukraine. The statement was adopted by the leaders of the countries at their summit at Harpsund, Sweden.

“In the coming months, we will step up our support, including to the Ukrainian defence industry. Military assistance is an integral part of our support. We encourage other to do the same,” the statement said.

“Our main message today is that our support for Ukraine is unwavering and will remain strong,” said Prime Minister Petteri Orpo.

“The situation in the world right now is very uncertain. We are facing security threats and challenges we thought we had left to history. At the same time, after our discussions here – between friends and neighbours and allies – I feel reassured,” Orpo said.

This time, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk was also invited to take part in the Nordic-Baltic (NB) Summit. French President Emmanuel Macron delivered a speech at the meeting via remote connection.

In addition to support for Ukraine, the leaders also discussed transatlantic relations and security in the Baltic Sea region.
