Philippe Aghion, winner of Nobel Prize in Economics, to speak in Helsinki about conditions for economic growth amid constant disruption
On Thursday 26 March, the Economic Council led by Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will hold a conference on economic growth in an age of disruption. French professor Philippe Aghion, who won the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2025, will deliver the keynote address.
Aghion is one of the world’s leading researchers on economic growth. He was awarded the 2025 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel together with Joel Mokyr and Peter Howitt for their work on the relationship between economic growth and innovation.
“Global uncertainties are holding back the growth that Finland needs. These uncertainties are affecting people’s minds, companies’ investments and our budget. At this moment, we need to talk about the means we could still be using to boost growth. Finland has expertise and potential, and we need to make the most of it,” said Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, who will deliver the opening address at the conference.
Pia Santavirta, CEO of the state-owned investment company Tesi, and Peter Sarlin, founder of Foundation PS and PostScriptum, will give comments at the event.
The Economic Growth in the Age of Disruption conference is being organised by the Economic Council. Chaired by the Prime Minister, the council a body for facilitating cooperation between the Government, the Bank of Finland and major interest groups.
