President and Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discuss Finland’s support to Ukraine, Arctic security issues and Finland’s continued participation in EUNAVFOR Operation ASPIDES

On Friday 31 January, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed Finland’s support to Ukraine and Arctic security issues.

The President and the Ministerial Committee also discussed Finland’s participation in the European Union’s EUNAVFOR Operation ASPIDES, a crisis management operation aiming to safeguard navigation in the Red Sea and its neighbouring areas. Finland will continue to participate in EUNAVFOR Operation ASPIDES with a maximum of five soldiers serving in staff duties at the military operation’s headquarters in Greece.

In addition, the President and the Ministerial Committee discussed the AI Action Summit to be held in Paris on 10–11 February and reviewed Finland’s objectives for the meeting. The summit aims to advance international cooperation on the safe use of artificial intelligence.
