President and Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discuss Ukraine, situation in the Middle East and UNIFIL peacekeeping mission

In their meeting on Wednesday 22 October, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the current situation in Ukraine, efforts to end Russia’s unlawful war of aggression and increase pressure on Russia, and the need to ensure strong European support for Ukraine. The work to strengthen Ukraine’s security, achieve a ceasefire and start negotiations based on the current frontline will continue.

The President and the Ministerial Committee also discussed the current situation in Israel and Palestine and United States President Donald Trump’s plan for peace in Gaza.
In addition, the President and the Ministerial Committee discussed the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which will conclude by a decision of the UN Security Council at the end of 2026. UNIFIL has been part of Finland’s participation in international crisis management and support for stability in the region. Finland will continue to take part in the mission until its end.
