Prime Minister Katainen met Italian Prime Minister Monti in Kesäranta

The Prime Minister of Italy, Mario Monti, is visiting Finland on 1-2 August on the invitation of Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen. In their meeting on Wednesday, the prime ministers discussed the economic situation in the EU and the countries' bilateral relations.
- The atmosphere of our meeting was very warm and open. We discussed today's political situation in our countries and what Finns and Italians think about the European integration and the current economic situation in Europe. With the challenging economic situation, there is no room for misunderstandings between nations. It is important to show mutual understanding and respect for people's sentiments, said Prime Minister Katainen.
The premiers concluded that Europe needs to adopt two-track approaches: independent country-specific solutions should be complemented with joint European solutions. Decisions on the best mix should not be made in a hurry. Different options should be examined with great care and attention.
During his visit, Prime Minister Monti will also meet President of the Republic Sauli Niinistö, Speaker of Parliament Eero Heinäluoma and chairmen of the key parliamentary committees.
