Prime Minister Orpo and European Council President-elect Costa to meet in Helsinki
Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and President-elect of the European Council Antonio Costa will meet in Helsinki on Tuesday 8 October.
The meeting will discuss the EU strategic agenda and Finnish objectives, such as improving the strategic competitiveness of the EU, issues of security and defence, support for Ukraine in defending itself against the illegal Russian invasion, promoting a clean transition through the bio and circular economy, and upholding the rule of law. Other topics will include the important role and work of the European Council in determining EU policy guidelines.
Former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Costa is due to begin his term as President of the European Council on 1 December 2024.
