Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will attend the meeting of the Nordic Government Leaders on 28 October in Stockholm, as well as the Nordic Council’s plenary session. Along with Prime Minister Orpo, the Finnish delegation at the Ordinary Session of the Nordic Council on 27–30 October will consist of Minister of Education Anders Adlercreutz, Minister of Science and Culture Mari-Leena Talvitie, Minister of Social Security Sanni Grahn-Laasonen and Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Sari Multala.

The main theme of the 77th Session of the Nordic Council is ‘The Nordics together – Nordic value and cohesion in troubled times’. Prime Minister Orpo will deliver a speech at the session and take part in the Council’s discussions during the plenary.

The main items on the agenda at the meeting of Nordic Government Leaders will be comprehensive security, progress on preparedness and resilience work in the Nordic Council of Ministers during Finland’s and Åland’s Presidency in 2025, and the competitiveness of the Nordic countries. Finland has worked actively to promote these themes during its Presidency.

“We are facing many threats to civil society, and we need to ensure comprehensive preparedness in all sectors. The work of the Nordic Council of Ministers is responding well to these needs. Several different councils of ministers have been working to improve the preparedness and resilience of our societies. It is clear that their hard work has borne fruit,” said Prime Minister Orpo.

Minister Adlercreutz will take part in a meeting of ministers for Nordic cooperation in connection with the session.

In addition to the meeting of ministers of culture, Minister of Science and Culture Talvitie will attend the annual meeting of the Committee for Knowledge and Culture in the Nordic Region together with the other ministers of culture.

Minister of Social Security Grahn-Laasonen will attend the Nordic Council Session on 30 October, after which she will meet with Swedish Minister for Gender Equality Nina Larsson and visit the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), among others.

Minister of the Environment and Climate Change Multala will attend a meeting of  environment and climate ministers, which will also include a meeting with the Committee for a Sustainable Nordic Region.

The Nordic Council prizes, whose winners will be announced on Tuesday 21 October, will also be awarded during the session.
