Type:Press release

For its main title of expenditure, the Prime Minister's Office proposes an appropriation of EUR 245.2 million for 2026. The draft budget appropriations cover the operating expenses of both the Prime Minister’s Office and those of the Office of the Chancellor of Justice, the salary expenses of ministers, state secretaries and special advisers, as well as subsidies to political parties, among other things.

The reduction relative to the previous year's budget is EUR 1.4 million. This change relative to the previous year is mainly due to savings in operating expenses made under the main title of the Prime Minister's Office and owing to the completion of the renovation project of the House of the Estates.

The proposed operating expenses for the Prime Minister’s Office total EUR 155.1 million. The level of appropriations in this item is almost the same as in the 2025 Budget. Due to higher savings in operating expenses and the termination of funding for completed premises projects by EUR 1.9 million, it is proposed that the item be cut by EUR 1.9 million. Correspondingly, an increase of EUR 2.1 million is proposed for the rent increases in the premises in the block near the Government Palace, in the Government Guest House and in the House of the Estates.

A five per cent cut, which amounts to EUR 0.130 million, is proposed in the remuneration for ministers and their state secretaries and special advisers.

For the purposes of launching the programme for EU Affairs Assistants, an increase of EUR 1.6 million is proposed for the payroll expenses of European Union national experts.

EUR 4.4 million is proposed for the operating expenses of the Office of the Chancellor of Justice. The appropriation includes an increase of EUR 0.1 million in operating expenses savings.

EUR 2 million is proposed for share acquisitions, which is EUR 1.7 million less than in the previous year due to additional adjustment measures.

Deliberation of the budget proposal to continue in September

The Government will discuss the draft budget during its budget session on 1–2 September. The Ministry of Finance then finalises the Government’s budget proposal, which will be submitted to Parliament on 22 September. Parliament then approves the Budget in December.
