Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo and Ukraine’s Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal held a video conference on Monday 10 July. Prime Minister Orpo told his Ukrainian counterpart that Finland’s strong support for Ukraine will continue under the new Government.

“Finland’s support for Ukraine will continue as long as it takes. Russia must end its illegal war of aggression. Russia and its leadership must be held accountable for international crimes committed in Ukraine. Russia must also compensate financially for the damage it has caused”, said Prime Minister Orpo.

Prime Minister Petteri Orpo also met with Ukraine's Ambassador Olga Dibrova today. They met at the Finnish Prime Minister’s official residence, Kesäranta.

Since the start of Russia’s full-scale war of aggression, Finland has provided Ukraine over EUR 1.7 billion in support. Finland has decided on 17 packages of armed materiel support to Ukraine with a total value of about EUR 1.2 million. Ukraine is Finland’s biggest single partner in development cooperation. Finland also provides humanitarian aid to Ukraine through humanitarian organisations and material assistance through the EU's Civil Protection Mechanism. More than 56,000 people fleeing the war in Ukraine have applied for temporary protection in Finland.
