Today, Prime Minister Alexander Stubb made an official visit to Sweden. Stubb had a lunch meeting with the Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt. The premiers discussed Finland's and Sweden's influence within the EU, the situation in Ukraine, and economic and defence cooperation between their two countries.

- Finland enjoys warm and constructive long-term relations with Sweden and this was reconfirmed today. In our discussions, we focused on cooperation that will enable Finland and Sweden to make their voices better heard in the preparation of the EU Commission's work programme and future appointments, Stubb said.

- Another central topic was the situation in Ukraine. By the next European Council, we may face a situation where we have to discuss new sanctions. In such discussions, it is important to ensure that a country like Finland, with close trade relations with Russia, will not suffer unreasonably due to the possible new measures, Stubb said.

This week, Prime Minister Stubb made his first official visits to Estonia and Sweden.
