Proposal made to launch consular services at Finland’s Embassy in Doha

Ministry for Foreign Affairs
Publication date 9.2.2024 12.14
Press release

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs requests comments on a draft proposal for amending the Decree of the President of the Republic on the Locations of Finland’s Diplomatic Missions and the Provision of Consular Services in the Foreign Service. The consultation round will be open until 20 March 2024.

It is proposed that the Decree be amended so that the Embassy of Finland in Doha would begin to provide consular services, except for residence permit services, within its consular district as of 1 June 2024. Residence permit services for Qatar would be provided at the Embassy of Finland in Abu Dhabi.

The proposal would improve the situation of consular service recipients in Qatar, who would be provided with Finnish official services, such as passport issuance and renewal, at the Embassy of Finland in Doha as of 1 June 2024, making travelling to Abu Dhabi for this purpose unnecessary.

The request for comments has been sent to a selected group. However, others are also welcome to comment on the proposed amendment and the explanatory memorandum.

The proposal for amendments is available at lausuntopalvelu.fi.
