On Thursday, 29 September, the Government proposed that a government proposal on the remuneration of the President of the Republic be submitted to Parliament by the President of the Republic. The annual compensation to the President of the Republic is to be raised from EUR 126,000 to EUR 160,000 as of 1 March 2012. The raise is motivated by a rise of the wage and salary earnings index and the consumer price index. The remuneration of the President of the Republic was last adjusted on 1 March 2006.

The Government also proposes that granting of a statutory separate appropriation for the President's representational purposes be terminated. The effect of such representation expenses on appropriations would be discussed in future during the budget procedure.

The raise of the remuneration would increase state expenses annually by EUR 34,000. In 2012, the additional remuneration amounts to approximately EUR 28,000. The proposal is included in the budget proposal for 2012.
