Finland to participate in NATO CMX17 crisis management exercise
Press release 167/2017
28 September 2017
Finland will participate in the NATO Crisis Management Exercise 2017 (CMX17) between 4 and 11 October as a NATO partner country. CMX is NATO's regular consultation and decision-making exercise. It is based on a fictitious scenario and it doesn’t involve any deployed forces. Finland has participated since 1998, every time that the exercise has been available for partner countries. In 2017, Finland will participate in the exercise for the 9th time.
In addition to NATO members, participants this year include Finland, Sweden and the European Union. Apart from the NATO Headquarters and Strategic Commands, CMX17 will involve civilian and military staffs from missions to NATO in allied and partner capitals. Participants from Finland include the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defence, the Defence Command Finland and the Mission of Finland to NATO in Brussels. The exercise supports the cooperation Finland and Sweden conduct with NATO.
The EU will organise an exercise called EU PACE 17 which will be coordinated and conducted in parallel with CMX17. This is part of developing cooperation practices between the EU and NATO.
