The Prime Minister’s Office will participate this year in the OpenHouseHelsinki event by opening to the public the decision-making premises of the Government on Friday, 12 September at 2-4 p.m.

On a guided visit, the public will have an opportunity to view the Government Palace’s most important areas: the main staircase, which is almost in its original form, and the Government Session Hall. In addition, it will be possible to take a peek into the Prime Minister’s Study and the Presidential Reception Room. Prime Minister Alexander Stubb will be present during the open doors event.

The Government Palace, designed by architect Carl Ludwig Engel, is located on the Senate Square in Helsinki. The Imperial Finnish Senate moved into the building in 1822. Finland declared its independence on 6 December 1917, and the Senate’s name was changed to the Government of Finland in 1918. The Palace acquired its present appearance between 1916 and 1917. Today, the Government Palace houses the Prime Minister’s Office, the Office of the Chancellor of Justice and most departments of the Ministry of Finance.

Entry to the Government Palace will through the main door on the Senate Square (Snellmaninkatu 1 A). Entry to the open doors event will close at 3.45 p.m. We kindly ask visitors to be prepared for a security check and to note that it will not be possible to take child carriages and large bags inside.

The location is not fully accessible. People with reduced mobility are requested to contact the Prime Minister’s Office for further details. Contact address: [email protected].
