Press release

The Government has issued decrees that will bring into effect special agreements on the transport of dangerous goods.

These international special agreements aim to ensure that transport of dangerous goods in conformity with the relevant requirements continues also in the current exceptional situation. The special agreements may be applied to transport by road and rail that are mostly used for the carriage of dangerous goods.

In exceptional situations, it may not necessarily be possible to arrange all trainings and tests related to professional qualifications in transport of dangerous goods, or scheduled and interim inspections of tanks, or vehicle inspections for the carriage of dangerous goods.

Under the special agreements, the validity of licences, approvals and certificates that will expire in the near future can exceptionally be extended in 2020.

The Transport and Communications Agency signed the special agreements on 30 March 2020. On 2 April 2020, the Government decided on the enforcement of the special agreements by government decrees. The decrees will enter into force on 3 April 2020.

The agreements will be available on the website of the Transport and Communications Agency at www.traficom.fi. The Agency will provide information on the separate agreements in Finnish and Swedish.
