Velipekka Nummikoski appointed as State Secretary to the Prime Minister
On Wednesday 22 June, the Government appointed Velipekka Nummikoski, Master of Social Sciences, as State Secretary to the Prime Minister. Mr Nummikoski will transfer to the Prime Minister’s Office from the position of State Secretary to the Minister of Finance.
Previously Mr Nummikoski has served as Communications Manager for Elisa Corporation and Radiolinja and as Special Adviser to a Minister at the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Labour, Ministry of Transport and Communications and the Prime Minister’s Office.
A State Secretary, appointed for the Prime Minister’s term of office, directs and supervises the functions of the Prime Minister’s Office. The duties of a State Secretary as the Prime Minister’s closest aide are to promote and monitor the implementation of the Government Programme, to direct preparation of matters and to ensure cooperation with the ministries. State Secretary to the Prime Minister also chairs meetings of the ministries’ Permanent Secretaries.
