Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen heads the Ministry of the Interior. She is responsible for internal security and migration matters covered by the Ministry of the Interior. Minister Rantanen is also responsible for matters related to integration covered by the Labour Migration and Integration Unit of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

Profile

Mari Rantanen was born on 29 March 1976 in Lappeenranta. She lives in Helsinki with her spouse and daughter.

Rantanen has achieved qualifications in several fields of study: she is a police officer, a paramedic, a nurse and a practical nurse.

Mari Rantanen first entered Parliament in 2019. In Parliament, she has been a member of the Administration Committee, the Transport and Communications Committee, the Legal Affairs Committee and the Intelligence Oversight Committee. Rantanen has chaired the Administration Committee since 2022. She has been a member of Helsinki City Council since 2017.

Work, health and safety are issues close to Rantanen’s heart, and she wants to work for a safer and better Finland.
