23.2.2026 | At the start of the year, the humanitarian assistance decisions of Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs prioritise support for Ukraine, major refugee crises in Africa and the humanitarian situation in the Middle East. The humanitarian assistance Finland now grants totals EUR 72 million, and EUR 20 million of this assistance will go to Ukraine. Humanitarian needs are record high at the same time as global funding is declining.

12.6.2025 | On 16 April, the European Commission submitted a proposal to establish a list of safe countries of origin for asylum seekers. The aim is to facilitate a swift examination of asylum applications that are likely to be unfounded: if the applicant comes from a safe country of origin, the examination of their application would be accelerated. The Government informed Parliament of the proposal by submitting a Union communication on 12 June.

23.3.2023 | Education sector representatives from the Asian Development Bank and from Bangladesh, Nepal, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan are visiting Finland from 22 to 24 March 2023. The aim of the visit is to deepen cooperation in matters related to teacher education, school meals and digital learning.

10.11.2022 | Most of the people who need humanitarian assistance are living amid crises that have gone on for years. Altogether 325 million people in 69 countries need assistance. Finland is granting EUR 13.6 million in humanitarian assistance to help especially the most vulnerable people.

23.2.2026 | Utrikesministeriet har beslutat om humanitärt bistånd som i först hand går till Ukraina och för att avhjälpa de stora flyktingkriserna i Afrika och det humanitära läget i Mellanöstern. Finland beviljar nu sammanlagt 72 miljoner euro i humanitärt bistånd, av vilket 20 miljoner till Ukraina. De humanitära behoven är rekordstora samtidigt som den globala finansieringen har minskat.

12.6.2025 | Europeiska kommissionen lade den 16 april fram ett förslag om fastställande av säkra ursprungsländer för asylsökande. Avsikten är att främja en snabb prövning av asylansökningar som sannolikt saknar grund: om sökanden är från ett ursprungsland som anses vara säkert, ska hans eller hennes ansökan behandlas snabbare.
