30.6.2025 | On 30 June, Finland brought an action against the European Commission before the Court of Justice of the European Union. In its action, Finland calls on the Court of Justice to repeal Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/864, which reduced the Atlantic salmon fishing quota allocated to Finland in 2025 due to overfishing in 2024.

21.3.2025 | On 20 March, Finland received notice that the European Commission has referred Finland to the Court of Justice of the European Union. The Commission’s application concerns the delay in transposing Directive (EU) 2021/2167 on credit servicers and credit purchasers, which aims to address the issue of non-performing loans (the ‘NPL Directive’).

4.12.2024 | In its meeting on Wednesday 4 December, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs agreed on Finland’s positions on the deliberations for the EU pharmaceutical package. The Ministerial Committee on also outlined Finland’s positions for next week’s council meetings.

15.4.2020 | Doctor of Laws and former long-term Finnish member of the EU Court of Justice Allan Rosas has been appointed Chair of the EU panel charged with preparing the appointment of Judges and Advocates-General to the EU Court of Justice (the panel provided for in Article 255 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union). The panel assesses the suitability of candidates to perform the duty of Judge and Advocate-General of the EU Court of Justice.

Other topics on the agenda include green collective bargaining, the EU action plan against racism, and social investment. Minister of Social Affairs and Health Kaisa Juuso will represent Finland at the meeting.

Notable progress towards this was made this autumn as the Council of the EU gave supplementary negotiating directives to the Commission, which conducts the negotiations on behalf of the EU, and reaffirmed the EU’s willingness to resume the negotiations with the parties to the ECHR.
