7.5.2026 | The Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve amendments to the provisions on the powers of the police to carry out undercover activities in an information network. The amended legislation is scheduled to enter into force on 1 August 2026.

22.12.2025 | The Ministry of the Interior has issued decrees on fees charged by the police and the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service. The decrees will enter into force on 1 January 2026 and be effective until 31 December 2026.

28.1.2026 | On 10 December 2024, the Finnish Ministry of Defence set up a project to examine the need to amend the Act on the Expropriation of Immovable Property and Special Rights to Ensure National Security and related legislation. The objective was to draw an overview of how the current legislation should be amended to ensure fair and effective safeguarding of real estate critical to national security.

12.12.2025 | Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen has authorised the Finnish Defence Forces to procure support services for military aviation, maritime defence, intelligence, surveillance and command and control from the Finnish companies Patria Aviation Oy and Insta Group Oy. The main part of deliveries will take place in 2026–2030.

17.1.2024 | A total of 19 candidates applied for the post of Director of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service by the deadline. The post will be filled for a maximum term of five years. The Director of the Finnish Security and Intelligence Service is appointed by a government plenary session.

14.11.2025 | The President of the Republic has granted the annual internationalisation awards to three companies and one community. Orion Corporation won the 2025 Growth Company Award. The Newcomer Company Award went to Sensofusion, and Sandvik Mining and Construction was recognised as the Long-term International Investor. The year’s Community Award was granted to the Finnish Startup Community.

30.1.2025 | Communications networks are part of the infrastructure that is essential for the functioning of society. The security of communications networks is extensively regulated in the Act on Electronic Communications Services. Its provisions contain obligations to ensure that the security of communications networks is, above all, proactively safeguarded though retroactive measures may be used where necessary.

5.11.2025 | The meeting of Nordic and Baltic ministers for digitalisation plans to adopt a declaration promoting European Digital Identity Wallets. The meeting is being held in Tampere on 6 November.

13.6.2025 | This week, the Finnish sanctions authorities will send a letter to companies cautioning them that they may be used as platforms or targets for circumventing trade sanctions. The purpose of this letter is to draw attention to the sanctions in force and to provide assistance in complying with them.

13.11.2025 | Nordic ministers responsible for civil preparedness or their deputies will meet in Helsinki on 13 November. This so-called Haga ministerial meeting will be chaired by Finnish Minister of the Interior Mari Rantanen. The ministers will discuss topical issues related to crisis preparedness in the Nordic countries.

27.11.2025 | The Government submitted a legislative proposal for the national implementation of the European Union’s new Cyber Resilience Act (CRA) to Parliament on 27 November 2025.

31.12.2025 | Fellow citizens, The darkest part of winter is now behind us – every day is a little bit longer than the last. Winter storm Hannes, which raged through Finland, has now subsided. 17.11.2025 | Minister of Transport and Communications Lulu Ranne will participate in the Summit on European Digital Sovereignty in Berlin on 18 November 2025. The meeting will be attended by policy-makers and representatives of businesses and academia.

27.6.2024 | On 27 June 2024, the Government appointed the Advisory Board for Network Security for a new term of office. The Advisory Board aims to assess and improve national security in communications networks. The Board’s term of office is from 1 July 2024 to 31 December 2027.
