25.2.2025 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health have launched a national project on the Working Life Development Strategy with the aim of increasing labour productivity and improving wellbeing at work.

23.4.2024 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has appointed a working group to improve the employment, competence and working life participation of special groups, such as persons with impaired capacity to work, disabilities or a low education level, immigrants and older people.

21.11.2023 | The Talent Boost programme on work-based and education-based immigration will continue in a revised form during this Government term. The aim is to provide Finland with skills that meet its needs and to strengthen economic growth, employment and innovation activities. The ministerial working group on employment and entrepreneurship approved the programme on 21 November 2023.

22.8.2024 | A working group appointed by the Ministry of Transport and Communications has started its work to promote 6G communications technologies. The aim is to prepare a national 6G roadmap and to encourage cooperation and exchange of information in the field of future-generation wireless network technologies. Members of the working group represent key central government bodies as well as stakeholders in the research and business sector.

1.2.2024 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Defence have appointed a working group to explore ways to coordinate territorial surveillance and wind power construction. The aim is to improve the conditions for wind power projects to proceed in eastern Finland. The term of the working group is 1 February–30 June 2024.

28.6.2024 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment submitted a draft government proposal on increasing the opportunities for local collective bargaining to the Finnish Council of Regulatory Impact Analysis on 28 June 2024.

14.7.2023 | At its plenary session on Friday 14 July, the Government appointed ministerial working groups of Prime Minister Orpo's Government. The ministerial working groups were appointed for a sustainable welfare society; employment and entrepreneurship; clean energy, the environment and security of supply; internal security and administration of justice; children, youth and families; physically active lifestyles and functional capacity; and social transformation.

8.2.2024 | A tripartite working group, which will prepare amendments to the mediation system of labour disputes, met for the first time on 8 February 2024. The aim is to promote an export-driven labour market model.

16.1.2025 | The Government of Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has drawn up a Government Integration Programme for 2024–2027. The programme includes 32 measures based on the Government Programme. Integration policy is based on the learning of Finnish or Swedish, employment, familiarisation with Finnish society and compliance with its rules.

20.12.2023 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has appointed a steering group to prepare a minerals strategy in accordance with the Government Programme. Kimmo Tiilikainen, Director General of the Geological Survey of Finland, will chair the steering group. The strategy will be completed at the end of 2024..

8.10.2024 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment appointed a coordination group on offshore wind power. The group will maintain a situation picture for the offshore wind power sector and participate in the preparation of the timetables and selection of wind power areas, which will be tendered in territorial waters and the exclusive economic zone.

23.12.2025 | The strategy aims to develop the social economy and social entrepreneurship and to improve the operating conditions of social enterprises in Finland.

19.6.2024 | In its meeting on Wednesday 19 June, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed the progress of Finland’s efforts to influence EU policy and ways to increase the number of Finns working in EU institutions. The Ministerial Committee also discussed the Union’s enlargement prospects and outlined Finland’s positions for upcoming meetings.

3.11.2025 | On 28 October 2025, Finland and Kazakhstan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on a strategic partnership in the energy sector. The particular areas of cooperation are the promotion of energy and clean technologies, security of energy supply and decarbonisation of electricity and heat production.

14.11.2025 | Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto will visit Washington DC on 17–18 November to attend an ICE Pact Principals Meeting between Finland, the United States and Canada, the partner countries in the Icebreaker Collaboration Effort (ICE Pact). After the Principals Meeting, a meeting of national coordinators and working groups and an Industry Day event will take place in Washington DC on 19–20 November.

26.1.2022 | The Ministerial Working Group on Developing the Digital Transformation, the Data Economy and Public Administration decided to circulate for comments a resolution on technology policy. The goal of the Government resolution is that in 2030 Finland will be the most successful and best known country for generating wellbeing from the development and utilisation of technology.

31.1.2025 | Rapporteur Elina Björklund submitted her report on reforming the Team Finland network’s foreign functions to Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio and Minister of Economic Affairs Wille Rydman on 31 January 2025.

19.11.2025 | On 18 November, Finland, the United States and Canada signed a trilateral Joint Statement of Intent (JSOI) confirming support for the Icebreaker Collaboration Effort (ICE) Pact, launched in autumn 2024. The JSOI was signed in Washington DC by Sakari Puisto, the Finnish Minister of Economic Affairs, Kristi Noem, the United States Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, and Kirsten Hillman, Canada’s Ambassador to the United States.

2.12.2021 | The Ministerial Working Group on Promoting Employment decided on 2 December 2021 on the funding model for the TE services reform 2024 as an incentive for municipalities to develop and offer efficient employment services. The ministerial working group also refined its previous outlines on tasks that are centralised nationally and tasks that are transferring to the municipalities.

23.6.2022 | In its meeting, the Ministerial Working Group on Developing the Digital Transformation, the Data Economy and Public Administration approved the main elements of the legislative proposals concerning a digital identification application and the redesign of the personal identity code. The working group also approved continuing the preparation of Finland’s digital compass based on feedback.
