Work on the Working Life Development Strategy begins: Towards a good and productive working life of 2035

The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health have launched a national project on the Working Life Development Strategy with the aim of increasing labour productivity and improving wellbeing at work.
The objective of the Working Life Development Strategy is to enhance the quality of working life in order to boost productivity growth. Sustainable growth is generated by skilled people, good quality of working life, and diverse and inventive work communities.
A tripartite management group led by the Minister of Employment and the Minister of Social Security and consisting of working life experts is responsible for the preparation of the Working Life Development Strategy.
The project on the Working Life Development Strategy project will draft the strategy and begin its implementation. The term of the project will end in summer 2026. The parties involved in the strategy will agree on its implementation and monitoring. The measures aim to create a long-term path towards 2035, with the Working Life Forum 2026 offering the first opportunity for monitoring progress.
Research on working life as well as experiences gained from the programmatic development of working life will be used in the preparation of the strategy.
Strategy work is based on research and broad participation
An extensive research review and expert discussions conducted in 2024 were used as a basis for the Working Life Development Strategy. Nearly 100 experts on the development of working life discussed the research results in workshops. The workshops highlighted many issues, including the need to develop supervisory work, support the mental health of young people and promote diversity.
Artificial intelligence and hybrid work are already shaping the way in which work communities function every day. The working life of the future is seen as a dynamic environment where no conflict between work and studies, entrepreneurship and different life situations exists. Understanding the changes in working life and consciously steering them require a new approach to organisational culture and management.
Information on the Working Life Development Strategy will be available throughout the strategy process on the website and on social media with hashtag #maailmanparastyöelämä.
