27.6.2025 | At the presidential session on 27 June, the President of the Republic appointed Juha Mustonen to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Doha and Sirpa Oksanen to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Zagreb.

24.10.2022 | Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will visit Saudi Arabia and Qatar from 24 to 27 October 2022. During his visit, Minister Skinnari will meet Saudi Arabian and Qatari ministers and representatives of business life. In addition, he will deliver a keynote address at the international Future Investment Initiative Forum (FII), which will be held in Riyadh on from 25 to 27 October.

15.9.2025 | Minister of the Environment and Climate Sari Multala will take part in the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) General Conference in Vienna on 15–16 September 2025. On Monday, she will deliver Finland’s national statement to the plenary.

17.1.2025 | In their meeting on Friday 17 November, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the surveillance of underwater infrastructure in the Baltic Sea. It is important to intensify cooperation with our partner countries in order to protect maritime infrastructure effectively.

25.4.2025 | On 25 April 2025, President Alexander Stubb approved an amendment to the Decree of the President of the Republic on the Locations of Finland’s Diplomatic Missions. The amendment will establish Finland’s Consulate General in Houston, Texas, in the United States as of 1 July 2025.

16.10.2024 | In their first-ever summit in Brussels on Wednesday 16 October, the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) outlined a vision for closer cooperation. For Finland, it was important that the joint statement issued at the summit condemn Russia’s war of aggression in Ukraine.

9.2.2024 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs requests comments on a draft proposal for amending the Decree of the President of the Republic on the Locations of Finland’s Diplomatic Missions and the Provision of Consular Services in the Foreign Service. The consultation round will be open until 20 March 2024.

15.4.2024 | The 68th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) took place in New York between 11 and 22 March. The theme of the session was ‘Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective’.

5.2.2023 | Minister Ville Skinnari is visiting Qatar from 5 to 7 February 2023. On 5 February, he inaugurated the new Embassy of Finland in Doha as a representative of the Finnish State. The Embassy started operations in December 2021. Besides the inauguration ceremony, Minister Skinnari’s programme in Doha includes meetings with authorities, researchers and representatives of business and industry. The visit aims to continue to foster good relations and promote trade between Finland and Qatar.

3.3.2023 | State Secretary Johanna Sumuvuori will lead Finland’s national delegation to the UN Conference on the Least Developed Countries in Doha, Qatar. More than one third of Finland’s development cooperation funding goes to the least developed countries, which also make up the majority of Finland’s bilateral partners.

4.2.2022 | Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will visit Doha, Qatar, on 6 February. During his visit, Minister Haavisto will meet the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, and representatives of the international community.

10.12.2021 | The EU Foreign Ministers will meet in Brussels on Monday 13 December. State Secretary Johanna Sumuvuori will represent Finland at the meeting. The Foreign Affairs Council will focus on EU-Africa relations, Central Asia and Venezuela. During a working lunch, ministers will have an informal exchange with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar.

22.6.2021 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is making preparations to expand and strengthen the network of Finnish missions abroad. A new embassy will be opened in Doha, Qatar. The embassy would commence operations at some point later this year. The Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs has informed that the country will establish an embassy in Finland, too.
