3.6.2026 | The Government submitted its second supplementary budget proposal for 2026 to Parliament on 3 June. The supplementary budget includes employment measures outlined in the spending limits session and investments in counter-drone capabilities and defence more broadly. The proposal also includes an increase to revenue estimates.

18.6.2025 | Senate Properties will begin a major renovation of the National Archives’ main building at Rauhankatu 17 in spring 2026. At the same time, the building will be adapted into a shared workspace for the National Archives, the Institute for the Languages of Finland, the Finnish National Agency for Education, the Accessibility Library Celia, and the Research Council of Finland. These agencies will move into the premises in autumn 2028.

24.6.2025 | In its meeting on 24 June, the Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy decided on the implementation and allocation of EUR 130 million in annual central government savings in addition to the savings of almost EUR 400 million already agreed on for various administrative branches.

22.4.2026 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo’s Government has agreed on the General Government Fiscal Plan for 2027–2030. Both the global economy and Finland’s finances are facing challenges. In its spending limits session, the Government focused on new targeted measures to strengthen people’s confidence in the future and improve the conditions for growth and employment.

1.2.2024 | The Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke) will replace the experimental cowshed in Minkiö, Jokioinen with a new one. The planning of the project and competitive tendering and planning the implementation of the construction work will be carried out during 2024. The construction of the new cowshed will take place in 2025 and the aim is to take it into use by the end of the year. 

15.1.2024 | The mid-term evaluation of the Green Deal on emission-free work sites shows that almost all of the interim targets of the agreement have been reached. Electrification of machinery is a key tool to completely phase out fossil fuels.

The proposal includes appropriations for speeding up the construction of the fence on the eastern border, introducing targeted measures to alleviate the situation in the construction sector and providing additional support to Ukraine. In addition, it proposes reducing revenue estimates by EUR 1.3 billion based on the forecast published by the Ministry of Finance in December 2023.

24.1.2023 | The development of premises used by central government authorities is being continued. The aim is to increase the security and reliability of properties used by authorities.

16.3.2022 | In its meeting on 16 March 2022, the Ministerial Committee on Economic Policy decided to support the plan to modernise government premises.

5.10.2022 | The central government will implement an extensive energy saving programme in its premises with the aim to help Finland overcome the current challenging energy situation. The Ministerial working group on developing the digital transformation, the data economy and public administration discussed the matter on 5 October. Minister of Local Government Sirpa Paatero fully took over as chair of the ministerial working group for the remainder of the government term.

9.9.2021 | The GTK Mintec pilot plant and laboratories in Outokumpu, operated by the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), will get new office and laboratory facilities. This will facilitate the development of sustainable mining and the circular economy to respond to the challenges of climate change, the green transition and digitalisation.

14.9.2022 | The Climate Policy Roundtable will hold its 17th meeting on Thursday 15 September. The main topics are solutions to energy crisis and green transition. The Roundtable is chaired by Prime Minister Sanna Marin.

28.10.2021 | As of 1 November 2021, the premises of the Ministry of Transport and Communications will be located at Eteläesplanadi 4, Helsinki. 

3.12.2021 | The Government will organise a festive illumination at Merikasarmi on Finland’s 104th Independence Day. The refurbished and modernised Merikasarmi premises were taken back into use in September.
