18.2.2026 | Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend an informal meeting of EU trade ministers in Nicosia, Cyprus, on 19–20 February. Topics on the meeting agenda include the 14th WTO Ministerial Conference and the EU’s trade relations with China. The ministers will also be briefed of the EU’s ongoing trade agreement negotiations with various trading partners.

18.3.2026 | In its meeting on Wednesday 18 March, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs outlined Finland’s positions for the European Council meeting on 19–20 March and the Euro Summit to be held in connection with it. The ministerial committee also discussed the agenda for the next meeting of the Foreign Affairs Council, which will focus on trade.

19.1.2024 | Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend an informal meeting of EU trade ministers in Brussels on 22–23 January. The meeting will focus on preparations for the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Ministerial Conference, and the ministers will also discuss the matter with WTO Director-General. Further, the ministers will discuss the contribution of trade policy to the prosperity and resilience of the EU.

27.11.2023 | Finland’s Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in its trade configuration in Brussels on 27 November 2023. The trade ministers will discuss the preparations for the Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization, the EU’s trade agreement with Chile and the EU–US trade relations. The ministers will also discuss the EU’s ongoing bilateral trade negotiations.

23.6.2025 | The EU will block access for Chinese medical device economic operators to public contracts worth EUR 5 million or more. Medical devices originating in China may not represent over 50 per cent of the total value of the contract in tenders submitted by other suppliers.

25.2.2025 | Permanent State Secretary Jukka Salovaara will visit Geneva, Switzerland, from 25 to 26 February. He will deliver Finland’s address to a High-Level Segment of the 58th session of the UN Human Rights Council and to a High-Level Segment of the Conference on Disarmament.

20.5.2021 | Minister for Development Cooperation and Foreign Trade Ville Skinnari will participate in the EU trade minister conference in Brussels on 20 May 2021.

23.2.2024 | Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Ville Tavio will attend the 13th WTO Ministerial Conference on 26–29 February and the preceding meeting of EU trade ministers on 25 February in Abu Dhabi. Finland considers restoring the functioning of the WTO dispute settlement system to be a key theme at the Conference.

21.12.2023 | The European Commission has revised the EU thresholds used in public procurement. The changes are based on the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Government Procurement Agreement (GPA). The Commission reviews the EU thresholds to correspond with the GPA every two years.

10.6.2021 | Finland will support the World Trade Organisation’s trade-related technical assistance (TRTA) activities by slightly more than EUR one million in 2021–2022.
