2.9.2024 | The Finnish Government aims to improve national security of Finland by tightening the legislation on foreign real estate transactions. A working group appointed by Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen drew up a report on the matter, which will be sent out for comments next. Awareness of the need for information on discrimination has increased in society, and information is being produced by several parties.

5.6.2026 | The ProcurFinland Programme has published a guide to help contracting entities identify and prevent sanctions evasion and circumvention. The guide provides practical advice on taking sanctions into account at different stages of the procurement process. It lists warning signs that contracting entities can use to assess the risk of sanctions evasion and circumvention.

8.4.2026 | At the end of 2025, the value of the State’s corporate holdings rose to around EUR 38 billion, while revenue from corporate holdings grew to EUR 1.94 billion. The total return on holdings in state-owned listed companies rose to 47.9 per cent.

16.6.2026 | The Government aims to increase fair and open competition. The new Act on Public Procurement and Concession Contracts will increase competition in public procurement and restrict the use of in-house entities. The amendments will enter into force on 18 June 2026.

23.4.2026 | ​​​​​​​On 23 April 2024, the Finnish Government submitted to Parliament a proposal to amend the Nuclear Energy Act and the Criminal Code. The Government proposes to remove the legal barriers on importing nuclear devices into Finland and on transporting, supplying or possessing them in Finland in the context of Finland’s homeland defence, the collective defence of NATO or defence cooperation.

8.5.2026 | The EU ministers responsible for education, youth, culture and sport will meet in Brussels on 11–12 May. Education ministers are expected to adopt a general approach on the next Erasmus+ programme and outline the role of artificial intelligence in education. Other items on the agenda include the EU Youth Dialogue, the new AgoraEU programme, and mental health in sport.

5.2.2026 | The State of Finland is acquiring the Class A shares in Fingrid currently owned by Ilmarinen Mutual Pension Insurance Company. The total share purchase price is about EUR 401.3 million. The acquisition will strengthen the State’s ability to steer Fingrid, which a company of strategic interest.

12.12.2025 | Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen has authorised the Finnish Defence Forces to procure support services for military aviation, maritime defence, intelligence, surveillance and command and control from the Finnish companies Patria Aviation Oy and Insta Group Oy. The main part of deliveries will take place in 2026–2030.

5.9.2025 | The Ministry of the Interior has sent out for comments a government proposal aiming to specify the provisions concerning powers related to undercover activities conducted in an information network by the police. The deadline for submitting comments is October 16, 2025.
