On 7.11.25, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment appointed a working group to consider solutions to problems related to low-priced imports. The task of the working group is to identify all the national and EU-level solutions that can be used to address the problems caused by low-priced imports. In addition to surveying the means, a proposal will be made on the primary follow-up measures.

10.4.2026 | Kuluttajariitojen vaihtoehtoiseen riidanratkaisuun liittyvää lainsäädäntöä täsmennetään. Oikeusministeriön asettaman työryhmän tehtävänä on laatia ehdotus siitä, miten ADR-muutosdirektiivin vaatimat tarkennukset tuotaisiin osaksi Suomen lakia. Lisäksi se selvittää kuluttajariitalautakunnan toiminnan kehittämiseen liittyvät lainsäädännön muutostarpeet.

25.9.2025 | Hallitus esittää, että EU:n uudet säännöt kuluttajaluotoista ja rahoituspalvelujen etämyynnistä tuotaisiin osaksi Suomen lainsäädäntöä. 

29.11.2024 | At its meeting on Friday 29 November, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs received an update on the EU’s climate targets and outlined Finland’s positions on the Commission’s proposal for a directive to harmonise insolvency law.

18.12.2025 | A report based on the Government Programme assesses the need for personal sanctions related to cartels. According to the report, there is no clear need for personal sanctions; instead, competition processes should be accelerated in general. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will begin an investigation into the matter.

18.2.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo has invited Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Henna Virkkunen and the commissioners reporting to her to Finland on 20–21 February. Prime Minister Orpo and the commissioners will discuss current EU affairs and international issues on Thursday, 20 February.

10.9.2024 | The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment have appointed Antti Neimala to carry out a study on the possibilities to allow sales of wines with up to 15 per cent alcohol outside the Alko monopoly.

29.11.2024 | The EU’s Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council will meet in Brussels on 2 December 2024. Minister of Employment Arto Satonen will represent Finland at the meeting.

28.10.2024 | The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has appointed Niina Oresmaa as Director of the Division of Basic Public Services, Legal Rights and Permits at the Regional State Administrative Agency for Southern Finland. She will take up her duties on 1 November 2024. The term of her appointment will last until 31 December 2025.

28.10.2021 | The EU already requires that footwear and textile products clearly indicate what material the item is made of.  The Government now proposes to Parliament legislation based on the EU Market Surveillance Regulation, which would specify companies’ obligations related to labelling of materials. The proposed law also enables the imposition of penalty payments for incorrect or deficient labelling. 

24.9.2019 | The main event of Finland’s Presidency in the field of competition and consumer policy, the European Competition and Consumer Day, will gather 250 experts in Helsinki on Thursday 26 September. The two main themes of the event will be the relationship between competition law and sustainability agreements, and consumer power in a digital Europe.

26.11.2020 | The Government has submitted to Parliament a proposal for an act on the marketing and use of explosives precursors and certain related acts. The new act would place further restrictions on consumer access to certain explosives precursors.

10.12.2019 | EU employment ministers gave guidance to the new European Commission regarding the Member States’ main objectives for EU labour law and social dialogue. Nicolas Schmit, the new Commissioner for Jobs and Social Rights, briefed the ministers on the Commission’s plans for the next five-year period.

5.12.2019 | The Employment, Social Policy, Health and Consumer Affairs Council (EPSCO) will meet for the last time during Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union in Brussels on 9–10 December. Health ministers will meet on the first day, and ministers responsible for employment, social affairs and gender equality on the second day.
