  2. 24.2.2025 | According to the Government Programme, the regulation concerning the grounds for terminating employment related to the employee will be amended so that, in future, a proper reason would be sufficient for terminating an employment contract.   4. 9.9.2024 | The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment has appointed two new tripartite working groups to draw up the Government's labour market reforms. One of the working groups will focus on those grounds for terminating employment that are related to the employee's person. The other will handle the grounds for fixed-term employment contracts, the period of notice for layoffs, and the reemployment obligation.

  6. 2.3.2026 | Wild-berry picking has been regulated under the Seasonal Workers Act since 2025. Companies must hire foreign berry pickers subject to a visa requirement for a contractual employment relationship to enable them to apply for an entry permit to Finland. For stays up to three months, berry pickers apply for a seasonal work visa at a Finnish mission abroad.

  8. 27.6.2025 | On 27 June 2025, the President of the Republic approved amendments to the Act on the Finnish Broadcasting Company Yle. The amendments will implement the legislative changes outlined by the parliamentary working group on Yle. They also incorporate the criteria and procedures for the appointment and dismissal of the management of public service media providers required by the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA). The legislative amendments will enter into force on 8 August 2025.

  12. 21.1.2025 | A report on the possible need to make amendments to board-level employee representation was submitted by rapporteur Jukka Ahtela (Master of Laws, Trained on the Bench) to Minister of Employment Arto Satonen on 21 January 2025. The report will now be discussed by a tripartite working group. The Government will assess the need for amendments in its mid-term policy review session in spring 2025.

  13. 29.12.2025 | Minister of Economic Affairs Sakari Puisto is pleased with the agreement on icebreaker cooperation between the United States Coast Guard and the Rauma shipyard, according to which two icebreakers will be built at the shipyard. Negotiations between the Coast Guard and the Helsinki shipyard are also likely to be concluded in the near future, bringing the number of icebreakers to be built in Finland up to four.
