5.12.2023 | The consultation round concerning the changes to industrial peace legislation ended on 5 December 2023. In total, 53 comments were submitted. As part of further preparations, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will now analyse the feedback received. The ministerial working group on employment and entrepreneurship will discuss the reform still in December 2023. The draft proposal will also be sent to the Finnish Council of Regulatory Impact Analysis for evaluation.

22.2.2024 | The Government is to submit a proposal for amendments to industrial peace legislation on 29 February 2024. The reform will enhance the sanctions system for unlawful strikes, limit disproportionate solidarity action and restrict the length of political industrial action.

16.5.2024 | The Government proposes that the President of the Republic approve the amendments to industrial peace legislation at the presidential session on 17 May 2024. The amendments would enter into force on 18 May 2024.

23.10.2023 | Improving industrial peace is one of the Government’s labour market reforms. The proposed legislative amendments were prepared in a tripartite working group that was not unanimous in its work. The Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will circulate the working group’s report for comments from 23 October to 4 December 2023.

29.2.2024 | The Government proposes to increase fines for violating industrial peace, limit disproportionate solidarity action and restrict the length of political strikes. The reform would not restrict industrial action aimed at improving working conditions in one’s own sector.

5.6.2024 | The International Labour Organization (ILO) will hold its International Labour Conference in Geneva on 3–14 June 2024. The agenda includes the protection of workers from biological hazards, discussion on the strategic objective of fundamental principles and rights at work, and decent work and the care economy.

26.3.2024 | On 22 March 2024, Minister of Employment Arto Satonen invited Katarina Murto, Chair of the Trade Union of Education (OAJ) and Negotiation Organisation for Public Sector Professionals (JUKO), and Millariikka Rytkönen, Chair of the Union of Health and Social Care Professionals (Tehy), to find a way to bring together all employer and employee organisations, that participated in the negotiations on Finland’s labour market model in autumn 2023, to agree on a sustainable labour market model.

4.9.2026 | Finland needs entrepreneurs.

16.6.2026 | The Finnish economy is gradually recovering but is overshadowed by the crisis in the Middle East, higher energy prices and an uncertain economic outlook. Economic growth is boosting general government revenues, but the deficit remains wide according to the Ministry of Finance's economic forecast published on 16 June.

25.2.2026 | Varkaus – a living industrial cultural heritage – was awarded the Cultural Heritage Label by the European Commission. The label is designated to sites located in the European Union that strongly embody the history, culture and integration of Europe.

4.11.2025 | The Second UN World Summit for Social Development will be organised on 4–6 2025 November in Doha, Qatar. The summit will strengthen the global commitment to social development. Minister of Social Security Sanni Grahn-Laasonen will represent Finland at the summit.

22.5.2025 | Ukraine held a Ministerial Social Policy Summit in Lviv on 22 May. The theme of the Summit was ‘Building Resilient Societies: Innovative Solutions for Demographic Change’. The Summit also issued a joint communiqué, in which the participating countries expressed their support for Ukraine and Moldova on their path towards joining the European Union.
