13.5.2026 | The rescEU Medical Stockpile hosted in Finland reached its full material readiness at the end of April. All products specified in the original plan have now been purchased and stored and they are ready to go. The project was completed on schedule, thanks to seamless cooperation among the different parties.

10.12.2025 | The Ministry of Transport and Communications has launched a legislative project to introduce a comprehensive reform of the Driving Licence Act, as the new Driving Licences Directive and the updated driving disqualifications rules of the EU shall be transposed into national legislation. The Directive calls for amendments to the driving licences regulation throughout the EU.

16.6.2025 |  Finland will reform and strengthen its health technology assessment (HTA) activities. As part of the reform, the expertise and resources concerning HTA activities will be pooled into a single competence cluster. 

24.2.2025 | Finland has been active in responding to Ukraine’s need for assistance. Finland has delivered more than 100 vehicles to Ukraine through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism. The latest consignment of 16 vehicles was delivered during the first weeks of February. Finland has also delivered more than 400 truckloads of civilian material assistance to Ukraine through the EU mechanism.

8.1.2025 | Finland has for the first time delivered assistance from an EU-funded rescEU stockpile to a country that has requested assistance. This week, a truckload of personal protective equipment and chemical detectors was delivered to Ukraine to respond to the needs of the country's rescue services.

20.12.2023 | Additional common EU reserves will be established in Finland. The new reserves will contain supplies such as medicines, medical supplies and medical devices, and they are part of the rescEU project. Finland has received a total of EUR 305 million in funding from the European Commission for the establishment of the reserves

However, one anniversary was already observed last week on 15 February, when it had been exactly two years since the activation of the EU Civil Protection Mechanism following Ukraine’s request for assistance.

1.12.2022 | The Government proposes that the generic substitution of biological medicines by pharmacies be made possible as from 2024. It also proposes that the reference price system could include reference price groups for both original biological medicines and biosimilars.

16.1.2019 | The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, together with other authorities and actors, has prepared for the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union (or Brexit). In a vote held on 15 January, the British Parliament rejected the UK withdrawal agreement from the European Union. The result of the vote does not mean an immediate withdrawal without any agreement. Further plans of the United Kingdom are expected to be announced within the next few days.

27.3.2020 | “Normally issues concerning the security of supply would not be of general public interest but now, unfortunately, the situation is quite different. The coronavirus outbreak has shown that our security of supply system is both functional and, in European terms, unique,” said Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen in a briefing on the coronavirus situation organised by the Government on 27 March 2020.

30.12.2020 | The Act on the placing on the market of conflict minerals and their ores will improve the transparency of supply chains. The Act will bring Finland’s conflict minerals regime into line with EU regulations. The Government submitted the Act for approval by the President of the Republic on 30 December 2020. 24.3.2020 | On 23 March 2020, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health decided that, under current emergency conditions related to the coronavirus pandemic, it is justified to take into use the medical supplies and protective equipment stored in the state emergency stockpiling.

26.3.2020 | The European Commission has adopted a regulation under which the export of personal protective equipment protecting against infectious material to outside the European Union requires an export licence.

12.6.2020 | The EU Member States, Finland included, have tentatively adopted a favourable view of the proposed new EU4Health programme for 2021–2027. Minister of Family Affairs and Social Services Krista Kiuru represented Finland in the video conference.
