We will develop the operating conditions of CSOs in cross-administrative cooperation. The implementation of the strategy includes legislative projects, studies and reports and other development measures. The aim is, for example, to extend the right to tax deductions on donations to CSOs, to reform government grant practices and to form a vision of civil society.

6.6.2024 | The Government has adopted a resolution on the Civil Society Organisations Strategy. With the help of the strategy, the Government will promote independent fund-raising activities by CSOs, develop government grant activities concerning CSOs and dismantle bureaucracy that burdens them.

3.11.2022 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland (MFA) has opened a call for proposals for international non-governmental organisations (INGOs). The thematic focus areas of the Call are sexual and reproductive health and rights, tax justice and transparency as well as food security for children and youth. The application round will close on 30 November 2022.

18.8.2025 | Finland’s decisions on humanitarian assistance this year have prioritised support to Ukraine, major refugee crises in Africa and the humanitarian situation in the Middle East. The number of people in need of assistance continues to grow. By the end of July, Finland had provided a total of approximately EUR 97.5 million in vital humanitarian assistance in 2025, nearly EUR 18 million of it to Ukraine.

1.12.2021 | The Ministry for Foreign Affairs has granted EUR 17.82 million to international non-governmental organisations (INGOs) for 2022–2024. Support was granted to 11 international human rights organisations operating in developing countries, whose work focuses on four themes: ending impunity; supporting human rights defenders; strengthening the implementation of economic, social and cultural rights and addressing discriminatory practices; and business and human rights.

22.7.2025 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo led Finland’s delegation to the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development in New York on Monday 21 and Tuesday 22 July. The forum took stock of global progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.

19.12.2024 | Finland is preparing a country pavilion for the next UN Climate Change Conference to be held in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025. The Ministry of the Environment and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs support the preparation of the pavilion in cooperation with companies, municipalities, universities and non-governmental organisations.

5.3.2025 | On 5 March 2025, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health, the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Finance organised a roundtable discussion hosted by four ministers on the topic of how to promote research in the field of healthcare and social welfare.

4.12.2024 | In line with the Programme of Prime Minister Orpo's Government, Finland's Cyber Security Strategy has been revised to respond to the changed security environment. The objectives of the revised strategy extend to 2035. A strategy implementation plan has been drawn to describe the development measures to achieve the objectives. The plan was approved on 3 December 2024 by the steering group of the project developing an operating model for government security management.

4.10.2024 | Finland is one of the strongest supporters of Ukraine in Europe. Finland has sent wide-ranging support to Ukraine; defence material; civilian material; humanitarian aid; and development cooperation. In a short period, Ukraine has become Finland’s most significant partner in development cooperation. Finland also supports Ukraine as part of the European Union.

25.8.2023 | In a decision published on 25 August 2023, the European Committee of Social Rights concluded that the right of persons with disabilities to protection of health, social integration and participa-tion in the life of the community as laid down in the revised European Social Charter, as well as the prohibition of discrimination, were not violated in the response to the COVID-19 pandemic in spring 2020.

16.2.2024 | The organization’s newly elected Executive Committee implements reforms. The recognised problems do not directly relate to the project funded by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland (the Ministry). However, the Ministry has suspended payments of the government grant to the international non-governmental organization while investigations are ongoing.

8.3.2024 | The 68th session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will take place in New York between 11 and 22 March 2024. Finland will be represented at the session by a broad-based delegation headed by Minister Sanni Grahn-Laasonen, who is responsible for gender equality issues.

3.11.2023 | A growing number of the world’s conflicts are sparked by differences in religion and worldview. We need religious and traditional peacemakers to understand the underlying causes of crises, to prevent crises and to support mediation efforts. In ten years, the Network for Religious and Traditional Peacemakers has grown into a significant actor in faith-based mediation. Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs has supported the Network from the start.
