29.5.2026 | Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will open the Ministerial Council Meeting of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris on 3 June. Finland will chair the meeting for the first time in more than 40 years. Several ministers from Finland will attend the meeting. In Paris, Prime Minister Orpo will also have a bilateral meeting with the French President Emmanuel Macron.

10.4.2026 | The official development assistance (ODA) continued to decline in 2025 both globally and in Finland. Statistics indicate a broad shift in global development finance. Ukraine remained Finland’s largest partner country for bilateral development cooperation.

27.4.2026 | Minister of Employment Matias Marttinen will attend the OECD’s Skills Summit in Istanbul on 27–28 April 2026. He will meet the employment ministers of Türkiye and the United Kingdom, among others.

20.12.2024 | The start of 2025 will see the entry into force of new acts and decrees. The most important changes in the administrative branch of the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment are summarised below.

12.3.2025 | The last projects of the Catch the Carbon package of climate measures ended at the end of 2024. The implementation of the knowledge and climate change resilient solutions produced in the package of 180 measures will continue and be further intensified through cooperation in different parts of the country. The processes to support this include the activities of the National Climate Unit of the Centres for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment (ELY Centres).

25.10.2024 | Financing is needed to preserve biodiversity, both in Finland and globally. The EU Nature Restoration Regulation, the EU Biodiversity Strategy and the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework call for measures that will require evermore financing, especially from the private sector.

22.1.2025 | As part of Finland’s Chairpersonship of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe OSCE, Kerstin Stendahl from the Ministry of the Environment has started as the Special Representative on Climate and Security. Finland holds the OSCE Chairpersonship in 2025. The overarching theme of Finland’s Chairpersonship is resilience, which is also being challenged by climate change.

15.12.2022 | In its latest Economic Survey of Finland, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) assesses the Finnish economy. The OECD also presents recommendations for Finland’s economic and structural policy.

19.11.2020 | The purpose of the reform of the Act on Co-operation within Undertakings is to improve the interaction between employers and personnel and to create a framework for developing the company and the work community. The reform would improve employees’ access to information and their opportunity to exercise influence. The report of the tripartite working group on the Government proposal will be circulated for comments between 19 November 2020 and 15 January 2021.

23.11.2023 | International recruitments to and candidacies for multilateral organisations, coordinated by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, are an integral part of Finland's foreign and security policy. Multilateral cooperation makes Finland a more influential player globally than its size might suggest. In autumn 2023, several Finnish experts were successfully recruited to leadership positions important for Finland.

8.6.2022 | In the Foreign Service, this policy is related to support for financing sustainable development through trade policy, development policy and development cooperation.

10.9.2024 | The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has published its Education at a Glance, an annual publication of indicators describing education systems. This year, the report focuses on equity in education.

23.1.2024 | Antti Karttunen from Finland has been appointed as OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan as of 23 January 2024. Karttunen was appointed by Malta, the current Chair of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE).

26.3.2020 | On 20 March, the Government decided on first-hand measures to be taken to secure people’s livelihood and liquidity of companies in the difficult situation caused by the coronavirus. On 26 March, the Government submitted its proposal to Parliament on amendments to the Employment Contracts Act, the Seafarers’ Employment Contracts Act and the Act on Co-operation within Undertakings. The amendments are intended to be in force for three months, or until 30 June 2020.

10.12.2020 | In its latest Economic Survey of Finland, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) assesses the impact of the coronavirus crisis on the Finnish economy, among other things. A special theme of the report is the Government’s employment target.

22.12.2021 | On 22 December 2021, the European Commission issued a proposal for a Council Directive concerning a global minimum level of taxation for multinational groups. The proposal is based on the project to reform international income taxation, launched by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development OECD.

4.6.2021 | Finland has received positive feedback on the good quality and implementation of development cooperation. Particular praise is given for the reforms and results-based approach to development cooperation. This shows in the Mid-term Review of the Development Assistance Committee (DAC) of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
