20.3.2026 | Raakaa väkivaltaa esittävän kuvamateriaalin hallussapito säädetään rangaistavaksi ja lasta seksuaalisesti esittävän kuvan hallussapidolle säädetään törkeä tekomuoto. Rikoslain muutokset tulevat voimaan 1. huhtikuuta. Tasavallan presidentti vahvisti lain tänään.

3.12.2025 | The Ministry of Social Affairs and Health has published the Non-Violent Childhoods Action Plan for 2026–2033 aimed at preventing all forms of violence against children. The plan, which will be implemented at the government level, is based on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, the Lanzarote Convention and national statutes that require all forms of violence against children to be combated.

20.2.2025 | Lakiehdotuksen mukaan raakaa väkivaltaa esittävän kuvamateriaalin hallussapito säädettäisiin rangaistavaksi ja lasta seksuaalisesti esittävän kuvan hallussapidolle säädettäisiin törkeä tekomuoto. Törkeän tekomuodon säätäminen ankaroittaisi lasta seksuaalisesti esittävän kuvan hallussapidon rangaistuksia.

4.12.2024 | In its meeting on Wednesday 4 December, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs agreed on Finland’s positions on the deliberations for the EU pharmaceutical package. The Ministerial Committee on also outlined Finland’s positions for next week’s council meetings.

4.10.2024 | The Cabinet Committee on EU Affairs has formulated the position of Finland on using immobilised Russian Central Bank assets to support Ukraine, and on establishing a cooperation mechanism for loans to Ukraine and granting macro-financial assistance to Ukraine.

5.7.2023 | Bo Viktor Nylund from Finland took charge of the Innocenti Office of Research of the UN children’s organisation UNICEF in Florence at the beginning of 2023. UNICEF Innocenti think tank produces research data and policy recommendations on children’s rights.

4.4.2024 | The UN Human Rights Council adopted the resolution Combating Discrimination, Violence, and Harmful Practices against Intersex Persons on 4 April. The resolution was presented by Finland together with Australia, Chile and South Africa. Several states across the world also supported the resolution.

26.4.2019 | Sport has been confronted with many cases of sexual violence against women and children in recent years. Public authorities, sports movement and stakeholder organisations are determined to tackle sexual violence against women and children in sport and to strengthen its prevention with the Expert Conference on “Sexual Violence against Women and Children in Sports”, organised in the framework of the Finnish Presidency of the Committee of Ministers.

4.2.2021 | The Government proposes that employers would have the right to conduct criminal record checks on people who work with children in short-term positions. The proposal aims to promote the protection of minors. Currently, employers are only authorised to investigate the backgrounds of people who work with children longer than three months during a one-year period.

25.11.2019 | Monday 25 November is the International Day of the Elimination of Violence against Women. This week, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and its partners will highlight the need to reduce violence against women and children and domestic violence on a number of occasions, including two side events of Finland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union.

26.11.2019 | Non-Violent Childhoods, the new action plan for the prevention of violence against children, contains 93 measures for preventing violence against 0–17-year old children and youth. It will be implemented during 2020–2025.

16.9.2019 | The Conference on Sport will discuss how children and young people can stay safe when engaging in sports and physical activity. The conference will bring together some 120 sporting professionals, influencers and decision-makers at Hanaholmen Cultural Centre on 24 September.

9.10.2024 | Lapsiin kohdistuvassa seksuaaliväkivallassa on kyse vakavasta ja nopeasti kasvavasta rikollisuudesta, joka jättää lapseen elinikäisen jäljen. Lapsiin verkossa kohdistuva seksuaaliväkivalta ei ole väistyvä ilmiö, vaan materiaalin määrät ovat kasvaneet jopa räjähdysmäisesti.
