The Court held that there has been no violation of Article 6 (right to a fair trial) or of Article 9 (freedom of thought, conscience and religion) of the European Convention on Human Rights.

25.6.2020 | In its plenary session today, on Thursday 25 June, the Government nominated Niilo Jääskinen (Doctor of Laws, Trained on the Bench) as Finland’s candidate for the position of Judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union for a six-year term of office beginning on 7 October 2021.

7.10.2019 | Niilo Jääskinen (Doctor of Laws, trained on the bench) starts his two-year term at the European Court of Justice on 7 October 2019. The Government nominated him as Finland’s candidate for the post on 13 September 2018. The EU-level evaluation panel gave a positive opinion on his candidacy, and the Representatives of the Governments of the Member States decided on the appointment on 1 February 2019.

15.4.2020 | Doctor of Laws and former long-term Finnish member of the EU Court of Justice Allan Rosas has been appointed Chair of the EU panel charged with preparing the appointment of Judges and Advocates-General to the EU Court of Justice (the panel provided for in Article 255 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union). The panel assesses the suitability of candidates to perform the duty of Judge and Advocate-General of the EU Court of Justice.
