15.1.2026 | The Government of Greenland and the Danish Ministry of Defence have decided to continue the Danish-led joint exercise in Greenland in close cooperation with NATO Allies. On Denmark’s request, Finland will send two liaison officers to Greenland on a reconnaissance mission to explore exercise opportunities.

8.1.2026 | On Thursday 8 January, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed progress in the Ukraine peace process, including the results of the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris on 6 January. As part of the Coalition, Finland stresses the importance of strong security guarantees in achieving a sustainable solution. The United States’ participation in Ukraine’s security guarantees is vital.

15.1.2026 | In their meeting on Thursday 15 January, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed support for Ukraine and the ongoing peace process.

23.1.2026 | The members of the European Council held an informal meeting on Thursday 22 January. Topics on the agenda included recent developments in transatlantic relations, the role of the European Union, and actions needed in the changing geopolitical situation. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the meeting.

18.1.2026 | As members of NATO, we are committed to strengthening Arctic security as a shared transatlantic interest. The pre-coordinated Danish exercise “Arctic Endurance“ conducted with Allies, responds to this necessity. It poses no threat to anyone.

21.1.2026 | The members of the European Council will hold an informal meeting on Thursday 22 January. Discussions will focus on recent developments in transatlantic relations and their effects on the European Union. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will represent Finland at the meeting.

22.1.2026 | In its meeting on Thursday 22 January, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed the informal European Council, economic support for Ukraine and military mobility.

15.1.2026 | Finland and Åland led the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2025. The priorities for the Co-Presidency were children and youth as well as societal security.

24.11.2025 | The Nordic Baltic Youth Summit will be held in Finland for the first time. The summit participants will draft policy recommendations addressing challenges related to the green transition and youth employment and submit them to Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Mika Poutala.

25.11.2025 | On 25 November, Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen presented a policy document outlining Finland’s Arctic foreign and security policy. The Foreign Minister’s policy document complements Finland’s Strategy for Arctic Policy (2021) and the Government report on Finnish Foreign and Security Policy (2024).

5.6.2025 | The EU Arctic Forum, to be held at Levi, Lapland, on 26–27 June 2025, gives European Arctic actors an opportunity to discuss the future of Arctic cooperation at its turning point.

23.6.2025 | This year, the European Union’s most important Arctic event will take place in Kittilä, on 26–27 June. The event is expected to attract about 350 attendees from across Europe.

9.6.2025 | Finland’s and Åland’s Ministers for Nordic Cooperation Anders Adlercreutz and Annika Hambrudd will co-host the summer meeting of Ministers for Nordic Cooperation in Helsinki on 10–11 June.

12.6.2025 | Nordic Council of Ministers for Fisheries, Aquaculture, Agriculture, Food and Forestry convened at its annual ministerial meeting in Kuopio on 11–12 June 2025. Among the topics discussed were security of supply and opportunities related to the bioeconomy, and the ministers also met young farmers. Ministers from Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark as well as the autonomous regions of Åland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland attended the meeting. Iceland was represented by the State Secretary.

29.10.2024 | At the Nordic Council Session on Tuesday 29 October in Reykjavik, Prime Minister Petteri Orpo presented the programme for Finland and Åland’s Council Presidency in 2025. Prime Minister Orpo also had a bilateral meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, as well as a meeting with the Nordic prime ministers and the representative of the autonomous region of Åland. 

31.10.2023 | Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will visit Oslo on 1 November and attend the 75th Session of the Nordic Council. Minister Valtonen will attend a hearing of foreign ministers at the Plenary of the Nordic Council and a meeting of Nordic foreign ministers in N5 format.

31.10.2023 | Prime Minister Petteri Orpo emphasised the need to work together to improve comprehensive security at the meeting of Nordic prime ministers in Oslo on Tuesday 31 October. He also spoke about the matter at the Nordic Summit with the region’s prime ministers and heads of government, which took place during the 75th Session of the Nordic Council.

31.10.2022 | On Tuesday 1 November, the Nordic prime ministers will meet in Helsinki in connection with the 2022 Session of the Nordic Council.

16.11.2023 | Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland, together with Åland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland are engaged in official Nordic cooperation within the Nordic Council of Ministers and the Nordic Council. The exceptional times we have been living in recent years have emphasised the importance of Nordic cooperation.
