16.2.2026 | The visit was cancelled because the connecting flight to Greenland was cancelled due to weather conditions.

15.1.2026 | The Government of Greenland and the Danish Ministry of Defence have decided to continue the Danish-led joint exercise in Greenland in close cooperation with NATO Allies. On Denmark’s request, Finland will send two liaison officers to Greenland on a reconnaissance mission to explore exercise opportunities.

8.1.2026 | On Thursday 8 January, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed progress in the Ukraine peace process, including the results of the meeting of the Coalition of the Willing in Paris on 6 January. As part of the Coalition, Finland stresses the importance of strong security guarantees in achieving a sustainable solution. The United States’ participation in Ukraine’s security guarantees is vital.

15.1.2026 | In their meeting on Thursday 15 January, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed support for Ukraine and the ongoing peace process.

16.3.2026 | At their remote meeting on Monday 16 March, the ministers for Nordic cooperation decided to set up a commission to examine ways of strengthening the status of Åland, the Faroe Islands and Greenland in Nordic cooperation. Minister for Nordic Cooperation Anders Adlercreutz represented Finland at the meeting.

13.2.2026 | Minister Anders Adlercreutz, who is responsible for Nordic cooperation will travel to Copenhagen to attend a meeting of the ministers for Nordic cooperation on 18 February.

23.1.2026 | The members of the European Council held an informal meeting on Thursday 22 January. Topics on the agenda included recent developments in transatlantic relations, the role of the European Union, and actions needed in the changing geopolitical situation. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo represented Finland at the meeting.

18.1.2026 | As members of NATO, we are committed to strengthening Arctic security as a shared transatlantic interest. The pre-coordinated Danish exercise “Arctic Endurance“ conducted with Allies, responds to this necessity. It poses no threat to anyone.

21.1.2026 | The members of the European Council will hold an informal meeting on Thursday 22 January. Discussions will focus on recent developments in transatlantic relations and their effects on the European Union. Prime Minister Petteri Orpo will represent Finland at the meeting.

20.3.2026 | Minister for European Affairs and Ownership Steering Joakim Strand will be in Umeå, Sweden, for Nordic Day on 23 March. During the visit, Minister Strand will meet with Swedish Minister for EU Affairs Jessica Rosencrantz, and the two will take part in a panel discussion on the importance and future of Nordic cooperation in an age of global instability.

22.1.2026 | In its meeting on Thursday 22 January, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs discussed the informal European Council, economic support for Ukraine and military mobility.

4.2.2026 | In their meeting on Wednesday 4 February, the President of the Republic and the Ministerial Committee on Foreign and Security Policy discussed the Meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence taking place in Brussels on 12 February.

15.1.2026 | Finland and Åland led the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2025. The priorities for the Co-Presidency were children and youth as well as societal security.

24.11.2025 | The Nordic Baltic Youth Summit will be held in Finland for the first time. The summit participants will draft policy recommendations addressing challenges related to the green transition and youth employment and submit them to Minister of Youth, Sport and Physical Activity Mika Poutala.

25.11.2025 | On 25 November, Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen presented a policy document outlining Finland’s Arctic foreign and security policy. The Foreign Minister’s policy document complements Finland’s Strategy for Arctic Policy (2021) and the Government report on Finnish Foreign and Security Policy (2024).

5.6.2025 | The EU Arctic Forum, to be held at Levi, Lapland, on 26–27 June 2025, gives European Arctic actors an opportunity to discuss the future of Arctic cooperation at its turning point.

15.10.2025 | Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs Elina Valtonen will visit Reykjavik on 16–17 October and attend the Arctic Circle Assembly.

26.5.2025 | Discussions at the Nordic prime ministers’ summer meeting in Paimio focused mainly on security in the Nordic region and the Baltic Sea region and on the situation in Ukraine. The meeting was held in Paimio and Turku on 26 May. 

9.6.2025 | Finland’s and Åland’s Ministers for Nordic Cooperation Anders Adlercreutz and Annika Hambrudd will co-host the summer meeting of Ministers for Nordic Cooperation in Helsinki on 10–11 June.

20.5.2025 | Finland and Åland will host the informal summer meeting of the Nordic prime ministers in Paimio and Turku on Monday 26 May. Discussions will focus on two themes: competitiveness and strengthening comprehensive security.
